Oίκοςλóγος means Ecology

What is Ecology?

This question seems simple to answer. It was the full Ecology exam, in a College, proposed by Dr. Ramon Margalef.

Let’s try to answer it.

The experts tell us that in Greek “eco” or οίκος means home and “logos” or λóγος, knowledge.

It is an integrative science that studies the relationship of different organisms among themselves and with the environment in which they live.

Generalizing, we can speak of Microbial Ecology, Land Ecology, Marine Ecology (Oceanography) and Watersheds Ecology (Limnology).

Nevertheless, it is considered the scientist Haeckel Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel or Ernst to the general public (1834-1919) the creator of the term and the study itself.
